UPDATE SUNDAY, JUNE FIRST:

All good things come to those who wait.

I am happy to direct you intelligent, talented and remarkably good looking folk to the link for the "musicated" version of "MySpace or Yours?"

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=9559

Steve did a great job bringing this to life and I appreciate the many hours he put into getting it just right. But rather than describing it any more specifically, I'll let you listen for yourselves.

Also, below are the final up-to-the-minute lyrics, for your reading pleasure.

Enjoy!

Beth

"MySpace or Your's?"
© Lyrics Beth Williams, Music and Vocals Steve Biederman 2008

He lived in Arizona
She resided in Peru
They’d never been together
But they knew their love was true
They’d met on-line in April
Checked airfares, boats and trains
Seems everything was out of reach
Except in cyberspace

Hey dye diddily aye eye oh,
hey dye diddly Aye A
everything was out of reach
except in cyberspace

Chorus:
They made the most of what they had
And set up their own lover’s pad
With secret password “is it time for chores?”
Their passion could not be denied
Virtually all positions tried
Together They were quite a site at “MySpace or Yours?”

They blogged until the sun came up
(Though hers would come up first)
She loved to browse his profile
And her in-box made him burst
They made up naughty acronyms
Ignored most e-decorum
Until a funny thing went down
En route to some sex forum

Hey dye diddily aye eye oh,
ignoring e-decorum
Until a funny thing went down
En route to some sex forum

Chorus:
They made the most of what they had
And set up their own lover’s pad
With secret password “is it time for chores?”
Their passion could not be denied
Virtually all positions tried
Together They were quite a site at “MySpace or Yours?”

Bridge:
He said, Um…I met this local girl…she only wanted text
But seems I’ve caught a virus…what a crock -- safe cyber sex

Chorus:
They’d never shared a real embrace
Yet here he’d slapped her in face
While she had carpal tunnel, keyboard sores
That mouse had found a “friend” in town
No stroke of luck…it shut things down
At the former playground they had found called “MySpace or Yours?”

----------------------------------------------------------

[color:#FF0000]5/31/08 Update:

At the suggestion of some of the sounder minds on this board, I have revamped this piece a bit. Below, IN BLUE, is the most current version. By all means, feel free to check out the original (further below), and as always, all comments welcome and appreciated.... smile

Ciao for now,

P.S.
With all my identity theft issues going on, I certainly don't need a libel suit too... but I HAD to share with you the first Bridge that came to mind, once I had decided to pursue the virus route...

Alternate For-Your-Eyes-Only Bridge:
He said, Um, I met this girl...she looks a lot like Miley Cyrus
But Disney sure aint' Rep'ing her, it seems I caught a virus!

ORIGINAL POST:

Hey all,

This one's a bit more Vintage Beth grin . The hook came to me as I was gabbing with Ben about Skip's hooks...and well, one thing led to another (we all know how THAT goes grin !)...

Anyway, for what it's worth, here's my latest. All comments welcome....

Beth cool

They’d met on-line in April
Checked out airfare right away
But everything was out of reach
At home they’d have to stay

Bridge:
But as fun as far-off flings can be, they sometimes turn out bad
Our gal came early, read a frilly “thanks, babe, for the add”

Chorus:
They’d never shared a real embrace
So this bold truth was hard to face
She’d suffered carpal tunnel, keyboard sores
And when this unexpected friend
Came on the scene, that was the end
Of cyber sex at their “MySpace or Yours?”

Beth,

This is hilarious! Ain't cyberspace great? It is creating an entire new realm and even vocabulary for human creativity. Congrads for stepping into it.

One of my best friends almost entirely courted his wife online. They knew each other very well before they actually met in person. I knew both of them on the opposite sides of an ocean, and had not a clue what was going on until very shortly before they were married. They still are and are doing well. He's the principal of a new 8 million dollar grade school, and she was the acting president of the college just next door last I knew.

It can happen...

Keep writing.

Oh, that's so sad. I was hoping they'd live happily ever after in a Website in the sky or something, fed intravenously so they'd never have to be offline.

And were they really "he" and "she"? In these days of Wikipedia, one can't never tell. Did she look like her avatar? Did *he* look like her avatar? Y'know, this electronic dating could really be a Godsend for the appearance-challenged, who'd never have a chance at romance any other way. Oh, the possibilities...

I weigh four hundred fifty pounds
And sound like Betty Boop
But my avatar's a naked slut
And I'm in love with you.

Beth, it is a nice song. I like it.

You have a sharp-witted keystroke Beth.
And this no one denies.
The man was missing one front tooth.
The girl had thunder thighs.
But I guess that doesn't matter in cyberspace. Very entertaining lyric!

Hi Beth,

A fun rump romp though cyber space.
I always enjoy your sense of humor & I've enjoyed the comments made about this song.

This is too clever, I only wish I could have wrote this verse...

Hey Skip,

I'm so glad you liked it...given you were involved, sort of...transitive property...something like that...in its inspiration!

And ironiocally, as much as it's based on WINDOWS, cyberspace in fact has opened a lot of otherwise closed and/or hidden DOORS!
Case in point, would I be having this conversation with you otherwise? grin

That's a great story about your best friend and his wife...and in fact, my brother, who is getting married this summer, actually met his wife-to-be thru one of those eharmony deals. So like you said, anything can happen!

Thanks again for chiming in....could you have ever foreseen the twists and turns your chicken/saddle hook would be taking!?!

Ciao for now,
Beth

Hey Joseph,

Well, you know, it can't all be pretty out there...look at MY avatar for instance....who knows what evil lurks behind my spf 75 hat and clothing??? cool

Which makes me think....maybe Weight Watchers should be doing all their business STRICTLY on-line...none of this before and after crap....(HA HA HA)!

Anyway, glad you got a kick out of it. It was a fun one to play around with -- especially since the possible outcomes of the relationship are endless!

Ciao for now,
Beth

Well howdy-do, Mr. Summeoyo (?)!

Happy this tickled your funny bone enough to inspire an addendum!

It was a lot of fun to write....so many possible puns (and in the meantime, you'll have to just guess what's behind the beachhat at left!!)...

Hey Cal,

How can a romp in space NOT be fun? I think we all had our suspicions about what was going on between Judy Robinson and Major Don West on "Lost In Space"....

Anyhoo, glad you liked the song... I suppose it might be considered a tad R-rated (thanks to that particular verse!), but I daresay, you boys are making me brazen!

Thanks for the visit...

Hi again, Steve,

I appreciate you taking the time to stop by for a look-see. Some days this forum just flies....other days, we have a little time to enjoy the harvest.

Anyway, I'm glad you liked this one...again, my prob. is the music. Anyone have any thoughts on it, knock yourself out! (not too hard, of course...)

Cheers,
Beth

Hi Beth,
Maybe I can help you out with the composing part some time. I have written pop/rock or folk/rock kind of stuff along with tongue in cheek humorous stuff in the past but right now I'm writing mostly in the Contemporary Christian vein and am not sure if this is the right venue for those. This would be easy to compose to and is singable due to the good structure lyrically. Who knows. Maybe we'll collab sometime.

Wow, Steve, that's quite a generous and welcome offer!

Looks like your plate is pretty full right now -- and I agree, it probably doesn't exactly fit your current target audience -- but as you said, maybe when things lighten up and you find you're looking for something fun to play with, just come a-knockin! (that SOOO didn't come out right...I'm sorry, goodness, it's just that some of the boys around here have been so NAUGHTY lately, it's rubbing off on me ! blush )

So thank you again...I'm glad at the very least you think it's workable... smile

Got an Idea for you Beth. Take the first two verses and make them into one. Add another four lines to the second verse in like manner and I may have a complete work for you. Does that make sense? Can't promise anything but I'm working on something.

What musical style do you have in mind. What do you like to listen to style wise? You can email me at queenschair@yahoo.com if you like. I like your wit.

Hi again Steve,

I just caught this on my way out for the night, so first off, thanks for the suggestions, and second, let me sleep on it, if that's okay. I'm a bit fried -- and it's probably an hour AFTER I suggested your song was a combo of The Boss and Hall & Oates -- so I'm sure you'll agree that's a good idea.

Don't know you're schedule...I pop in and out, in between my other vital housefrau duties ( wink ), so hopefully we can connect soon.

Again, thanks for your ongoing generosity...

Hey there Steve,

First of all, let me apologize: in my bleary-eyed state last night, I failed to catch the last four words of your post:

I like your wit.

To me, this statement speaks volumes about your taste, intelligence, and quite possibly, your shoe size. Let it be known, henceforth, you have officially solidified your position as Favorite New Music Pal grin .

So anyhoo, this morning I went to your Soundclick page to get a sense of some of your other work, but I could only find a few listings....are there any elsewhere I might listen to? I have to say, though, some of your answers to the Soundclick questions were a hoot -- my probable favorite...as part of your influences..."early Stones (Fred and Wilma)".

Finally, based on your suggestions, I've tweaked my song a bit...whaddya think? (the only real difference from the original is the second half of the new verse two, highlighted in red....)

“MySpace or Yours?” (Plan B)
© Lyrics Beth Williams 2008

He lived in Arizona
She resided in Peru
They’d never been together
But they knew their love was true
They’d met on-line in April
Checked out airfare right away
But everything was out of reach
At home they’d have to stay

Chorus:
They made the most of what they had
And set up their own lover’s pad
With secret password “is it time for chores?”
Their passion could not be denied
Virtually all positions tried
They were quite a site at “MySpace or Yours?”

They blogged until the sun came up
(Though hers would come up first)
She loved to browse his profile
And her in-box made him burst
They made up naughty acronyms
Pooh-poohed most e-decorum
Until the day a funny thing
Happened on the way to the forum

Chorus:

Bridge:
As fun as far-off flings can be, they sometimes turn out bad
Our gal came early, read a frilly “thanks, babe, for the add”

Chorus:
They’d never shared a real embrace
So this bold truth was hard to face
She’d suffered carpal tunnel, keyboard sores
And when this unexpected friend
Came on the scene, that was the end
Of cyber sex at their “MySpace or Yours?”

As for musical styles, I like pretty much everything, which I suspect helps you not at all. But never fear, I actually DO have some thoughts for this particular song (whether they make sense to anyone else is another matter entirely).

Anyway, I was thinking along the lines of Elton John's "Social Disease". (The song that is...I'm not here to judge...) I don't necessarily want to qualify my characters as "white-trashy-y", but they are being naughty, and they might spread a virus if they're not careful....hmmmm...now I'm wondering about including THAT idea into the song...

Okay, let me let you go...you've undoubtedly grown a year old if you managed to wade thru this whole post -- in which case, belated happy birthday.

Ciao for now,
Beth

Beth,

A computer virus caught from indiscriminate copulating in Cyberspace? LOL! Got to get that bit in there, if there's a way.

Keep writing.

Okay Skip....you gave me the extra little incentive to explore the virus angle...proceed back up to the WAYYYY top, all in BLUE INK, for perusal.

And Steve, I think this might be a funnier version than the one I had listed above as Plan B. Let's work with the One In Blue....

Thanks to both of you for the nudge...

Hey Darlene,

Thanks for stopping by -- and it even appears you found the right version, good!

More importantly, I'm glad you liked it. It was...and continues to be...a lot of fun for me to work on.

Cheers,
Beth

Beth,
I had twenty some songs on the site until a short time ago when I deleted them for a long needed change. I'll repost some of them for you to listen to when I get the chance.

Hi Ho Beth,
I've pretty well got a tune to go with it and the added part is good. I don't know if you'll like it or not and what your expectations but what I have is along the lines of an Irish bar tune. Celtic music is catchy and lends itself well to burlesque. By the way, I was once asked if I'd ever seen burlesque and I said "No, but I've seen Burl Ives." Anyway, I'll record something for you and see what you think. If you don't like it won't hurt my feelings. I'll just blow my freakin brains out and you'll have to live with it the rest of your life.

Howdy Steve,

If I could tell you the amount of brains that have been blown out on my account...gosh. Thankfully, that takes a little of the pressure off the both of us.

I'm sure I'll love it though. Celtic music rocks! Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, Danny Ainge -- what a quartet!! I think we're definitely seeing eye to eye now!

Looking forward to hearing what you've come up with...

Beth

P.S. Thanks, that's more like it!

Well get THIS!

Big Bird (aka Ed "Carroll" Spinney) is a family friend (birds of a feather and all that....). Anyhoo, in a roundabout way HE is responsible for my interest in music! (One time when we were little we were at his house and he had this very old, very cool contraption called a PLAYER PIANO...natch, I was captivated!)

SO, when you think about it.....if it weren't for Big Bird.... Lucy and Ethel NEVER would have gotten into so much trouble... grin !!

Later Robin,

Beth, I like the new (blue? how'd you do blue?) one a lot better. I like Stan's suggestions, too. I was still hankering after a happy ending, but the one I was woirking on didn't have a happy ending, either. Maybe it's the economy...

Yow, Beth,
This is spec-freakin'-tacular. I just got acquainted with this one and I keep going back and re-reading and laughing again. You have a beautiful 'delicately-raunchy', left-handed sense of craziness. I'm a sucker for this kind of word-dance anyway.

Really a great hook and so cleverly written. But just so you don't get a swelled head, did anyone mention that there seems to be a word missing in the second line of the last chorus? (I told ya read it a few times...)

Blue's a good color for it, by the way. A lot of girls won't write in blue - makes their asterisks look big.

Beautiful job. I can't wait to hear it. You cyber-tickle me.

Good morning, Stanerooski!

Thanks for taking the time to look over this so carefully. I'm definitely going to use some of your suggestions, so thank you. I'm also glad you got a kick out of it. As you know, I occasionally venture into the more serious realm, but when push comes to shove, this is the kind of lyric is much more my comfort zone.

I'm going to post the changes as soon as I can, since "Little stevie b" has been generous enough to offer to whip up the music for this. He already has some great ideas, so it should be a lot of fun.

Thanks again!!

With a coupla java jiggles for ya,
Jackie cool

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the second visit. I like the blue version better too (see below for color change instructions). Plus, I incorporated some of Stan's ideas as well. That's what's so great about having all you clever boys and girls around here at my disposal!

On these lighter songs, I would have thought happy ending too, but somehow it seems funnier this way (or maybe that's just my warped sense of humor)....

Anyway, thanks again....will keep you posted as music is worked up!

Cheers,
Beth

To change the font color first highlight the words you want to change. Then go to the little box third from the right above your text, with the capital letter A on it. When you click on it, it will give you your color options....just click on the one you want, and presto-change-o!

Howdy Keith,

Well, if all I had to do was tell you you had a knack for "mixing it up" to get this kind of response, I would have said so years ago! This is probably one of the nicest -- and most accurate -- things anyone has said about me:

You have a beautiful 'delicately-raunchy', left-handed sense of craziness.

I suppose some gals might not care for a description like that, but I figure if the shoe (or the asterisk wink ) fits, and all that....

Regarding the aforementioned missing word...you are correct, and win the Grand Prize in the Find the Purposely Omitted Word Contest! This prize package includes not only bragging rights, but also the sheer pleasure of seeing the missing word put back into place. Congratulations!

Thanks oodles,
Beth

Hey, alright. I've never won anything before. I did get picked for jury-duty once...

Regarding that color thing, though - Easy for you. Some of us apparently are 'chromatically-challenged' and can't get all fancy-pants. I don't have little boxes - just a note on the left that says 'HTML code is disabled'. What's up with that?

Keith...Keith...Keith...

Men and their directions...all you have to do is ask...

When you are responding to this post, at the top of the box where your text is being written, you will see a row of icons, with, let's see, 15 little boxes. You'll recognize some, probably. Dark B for bold. Slanted I for italic. Underlined U for underlined, S with a line thru it for Strike thru , not really sure about the next three, then you have your emoticon selections (make sure when you insert them you always leave a space after it, or just the shortcut will appear), then you have your uppercase A with the rainbow below it for color selection, then the Big T to change font style, then the big and smaller T's for font size.

Easy as pie.

It does make communications more interesting when you can use some of these features grin .....

Thanks again for your kind words about the song. Steve has got a great rough draft on the music for it, so hopefully we'll be posting the whole shebang soon. grin

First of all, Great Lyric, Beth! I've been following this'n silently because, like you said, there is a theme to yours and my latests. (can latest be pluralized?) I'll thank you properly on my thread.

Second of all, I think Keith's problem may be that he is only using the "quick reply" window and not actually clicking on the word "reply" in the post he wishes to respond to. A whole new magical world awaits, calmdog, once you venture beyond quick replies! grin

Well Betharooski, based on the number of comments, WHOA! They must be KILLING ya! smile

OK. I say, VERY funny and clever. But.......

You stopped me twice in the first verse. I said the following on another post recently and someone came right behind me to refute it, but I don't care. I STILL can't imagine two people discussing love being TRUE. like....

Bill: Yes, Jack, but is her love true?

Jack: Yes, I believe it is, Bill. I believe her love IS true. grin

And then, of course, you have that last line, which HAS to be the absolutely definitive example of Yodaspeak.("At home they’d have to stay")

But in a light-hearted one like this, it might even ad to the charm!

Thumbs way up!

Ben

PS DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS MUSIC FOR THIS UNTIL I READ CLICKED STEVIE'S SIGHT. I like the tune, but it sounds a bit familiar. Trying to think...Don't Take Your Guns To Town, maybe?

One suggestions for you, to clean up v1 (well to my ears anyway)...oops Ben caught it too....)

He lived in Arizona
She resided in Peru
They’d never been together
But they knew their love was true
They’d met on-line in April
Checked airfares, boats and trains
Seems everything was out of reach
Except in cyberspace

And I have an unfinished one that I can't seem to close out...maybe you want to play with it? In your vein methinks

Hey BBIII,

First off thanks for swinging by...thought your NAME might catch your eye as you were scanning the list of possibilities... cool

So thank goodness you like it -- it would have been some weird/bad reflection on you I think if you hadn't.

As for your nits, let's do one at a time.

"True Love" in this case....is an Exaggeration...as is most everything else in this song. It's underscores the unlikelihood of these two "soulmates" finding true love in an afternoon (I think you call THAT something else...).....

Which leads me to YodaLine. Because of the context, it's permissible (yes, I am making and breaking mine own rules kids). It lends a certain Fairy-tale-esque quality to the scenario...

So bottom line, I agree with your statements...but I hopefully have better explained why they are what they are. smile

As for the music, that was just a rough draft for me to listen to. Steve still has quite a bit he wants to do with it. As for it sounding like another song...I'm not up on my Irish Seas Chanties...so I'll have to have you two duke it out!

Regardless, thanks for your visit -- and for triggering the idea for this whole song to begin with!!

Ciao for now,
Beth

Hey Johnboy!

Thanks for taking the time to work thru this. I'll have to take it under advisement....especially if two of our finer writers ( cool ) are suggesting there's an issue.

I'd certainly be happy to listen to your other option, see if I can help you finish it up.

Steve is away for the weekend, so there's still time for tweaking.

One other note about the original, where:

"Everything was out of reach" -- I was hoping this also suggested they were out of reach from each other...it's not just the cost of transportation that's out of reach.

And to satisfy you two gents in the meantime, I will confess to knowingly using yodaspeak. Not purposely, but so it was...and I've come to terms with it (HA HA HA)....I'll let it percolate a bit, see how things settle down.

But do send me your other idea, John. I'm always game for more word-play....

Ciao for now,
Beth

Ben, don't know if you'll read this but any resemblance to another tune if that is true is not intentional. I read the lyric, got out my guitar and what you heard was original, or at least I hope so. I did want it to sound like a tune you might hear in an Irish pub so that's the direction I took. Not at all familiar with Don't Take Your Guns To Town or anything else of the sort. I guess I need to take it down for now. It was meant for Beth's ears to hear alone, to see if she liked it nor not.
It's way way too early a draft for public consumption. If you can tell me where to go to hear it or any other tune that's exactly like it I'd appreciate it so I can start anew as I only do original material. Not being a smart a$$ or defensive, I'd really like to know before carrying on further. I do want it to have a familiar feel to it but not a parody of an existing song.

Addendum: I looked up Don't Take Your Guns To Town and found it to be a Johnny Cash song. I downloaded it from Limewire to see if it was the same or even similar. The first four lines of the lyric are similar in meter to Beth's lyric but that is all. The tune may sound similar the first line only but all the rest is completely different, especially the chorus. Not even close. I'd never heard that song of his before but they're not remotely related style wise and with the only remotely similar melody line in the first line only made me feel better. As I said, I only do original material or not at all, even if it's in the public domain. I feel better now. Got concerned there for a moment. I AM glad it has a familiar feel to it as I wanted it to have that Irish sing-song catchy feel. Thanks for pointing me that direction though before I went on with it. I would have been really disappointed if it sounded completely like another existing tune. Thanks.

Steve

I'm the only person here who is not unique.
